I only disagree with the always perfect stat drops. Other than that, good posts, very long and detailed; that is always a good thing.

couldn't have said it better myself.

One thing though. I don't understand why people are so opposed to PVE characters getting the perfect stat drops. PVP characters have it handed to them with no work involved. If it Anet wants to make it really a test of skill, then PVE people should be able to have the same weapons.

/signed, and nice post.

I don't find the game very 'casual' if my one character has 270 hours and no where near the required resources for FoW armour.

About the roleplaying thing, it is annoying. I hate being called 'warrior' or 'tank'. I never refer to the other characters in my party by their classes, nor have I in any game. I might just call them by their first name or last sometimes, but the interaction feels more 'real'.

The novelty items would be perfect for a Role-playing district. As people have suggested in game weddings and such for those who feel a bond with their characters as well as others.

Again, good post.

Wow, I didn't know this thread would be so well received!

Talesin:
Haha, maybe I am a closet roleplayer. I meant to say, I'm not into hardcore RP'ing.. I don't talk to others as if I'm actually a survivor of Ascalon, same as in other games, I didn't actually believe I was a Night Elf or talk in taru-taru talkaru, lol. I do enjoy roleplay elements in games though, not just in MMORPGS, but in all games in general.. crafting, events, having a feel of day and time in the game world, etc.

As for 15k armors, I know that the Fissure set isn't the only 15k set, but that there are "regular 15k" armors available in three cities.. the Fissure sets require the same things as these, plus the addition of ecto/shards. I was just referring to the Fissure set as an example, because even though it is more 'elite' in looks and attainability, it has become almost impossible to even own at all.

slasc:
Yep, additions like what I have suggested would definitely hold the interest of players longer than the current game system. The creation of a more social atmosphere would also make the game something that players would want to return to.

Drakron:
Perhaps, a simple solution, is that since I suggested that these armor quests can only be triggered after finishing all the current missions and current storyline, perhaps these pieces of armor can already be infused.

Reiden:
Baking! Sounds fun. Cooking, in general, sounds fun, so long as the food doesn't provide bonuses that would be abused or create an unfair advantage in PvP. Perhaps foods with temporary effects that can only be used in PvE aspects of the game? Or food that affects players in the way Dwarven Ale does (fun little novelty).

Rayea:
Yep, I love the idea of clothing - customized to characters. Town clothing, perhaps, or clothing that doesn't provide as MUCH armor as the current armors we have. Example, I would love to be able to pick up some sort of cloth-work kind of craft and make clothing for myself, or even do quests to attain wearable items.

A nice addition could be side-quests in which the reward would be a wearable item, somehow related to the original quest. Example, let's say I helped a fisherman attain some lost supplies.. he could then reward me with a fisherman's hat. The armor would be weak, if any at all, but it would be something fun to wear and show off.

elthrain:
Thanks I try hard!

Spartan2 & kidxsoup:
I'm more awake now. Perhaps I should go into a little more about perfect stat weapons. What I basically am stating is that, it seems unfair that perfect weapons are available to PvP players from the first moment they create their character, while PvE characters struggle and work hard to find items that can match up. For those that want to use their PvE characters in PvP, it seems unfair that they would have 'weaker weapons'.

Rather than make EVERY DROP/WEAPON perfect, which.. is too boring, I think that perfect weapons should at least be a little more easily attainable. The only perfect weapons that are truly easy to attain are the collector's items.. which personally, I love using because of its 20/20 staff stats.. however, there are many people who prefer not to use them because they don't feel special (they look the same, their description is only in blue text, not gold, etc..). Maybe collector weapons can have a more unique look, so that players would actually want to receive them.

Racthoh:

Yeah, I hate that! I'm always referred to as the 'nuker'.. and I hate when parties demand things of me. "Get on teamspeak or no party." "Switch to earth for wards, don't play your build." Urrrrgghhhhh. There's no reason to remember anyone in this game, really, and interaction definitely lacks any sort of game realism.

In other online games, you could befriend someone you partied with and then not talk or see their character for two months - then seeing them again in town, you could /wave and have a conversation and you'd actually remember each other. I kind of miss that, heh.

---------------

Other things I wanted to mention earlier that slipped my mind:
1. Quests for expanding our vault storage, even if only by 5 extra slots.

2. In-game events.
I'd love to see in-game events organized by ArenaNet. Example, 'easter egg hunt' type of games.. where as you play the game regularly (or search desperately out of curiousity), you may find some sort of drop that is required in this hunt. The hunt would be given by some random NPC (maybe that old forgetful guy in Lion's Arch could be looking for things he lost, like glasses, or a letter he meant to mail), and the reward could be some sort of wearable item that has no or low armor stats.

Festivals/fairs that occur too, or celebrations where novelty items like a a few dwarven ales are given out free to characters every 24 hours so they can all 'get drunk and have fun' at the festival.

I remember in a game I played a long while ago that every so often traveling merchants would come around and bring some unusual items with them. Just novelty items, trinkets that were visible in your character description (this was a MUD more than an MMOG), or different styles of things. The merchants would find a place to set up for a short time period, maybe a day at most, then pack up and move on.

Here, with graphics concerns (modeling, texturing, clipping issues), I'm not sure what could be done with that, but given time to work on it as part of an update (even if the merchant items are recycled every so often so people who didn't get them in one go-round could at a later date) could be a possibility. Fire and water staves that have a different look and maybe have a small bit of animation to them like the earth and air. There are specific fire and earth wands, but the staves are generic. Blank shields that would display the guild crest could certainly be possible.

The fair/festival idea was implemented in that game as well. A gathering of multiple merchants offering their wares. This was another one that had a lot of interesting items that were basically just novelties. Something not necessarily better, but different, for people to spend some gold on. Different weapon models, alternate armor, etc.

It requires more work from the artists/modelers, but it would make for a better game experience. Props to Galatea for the suggestion for Guild Wars.

I still dream of my ranger looking like a mantle ranger...oh well.

Shadow Aster:
Thanks Yeah, the traveling merchant with novelty items or items that had different cosmetic looks definitely sounds appealing. The traveling merchant could come maybe on a Saturday morning and mingle in Lion's Arch for the day, then maybe travel to Ascalon on a Sunday and mingle there. Festivals would also be great to implement, if they lasted a day, or even a week, for some fake Guild Wars holiday. It would create a social atmosphere.. the music could change in the city that the festival was in, players could have a /dance party in the middle of it, traveling merchants with those cosmetic weapons, and even special event-related items (such as hats that had no armor stats, but looked unique from other items, that could be seen in town.. sort of like souveniers to keep to show you participated in the festival) and even free novelty items like fireworks/confetti/ale/etc. for a limited time (2 free random novelty items per day, for the duration of the festival)..

The reason I suggest fake holidays is because in other games, in-game events are based around real-world holidays, like Christmas and Easter. As enjoyable as this can be, there are some players who don't get to enjoy these events because they are doing events in real life surrounding holidays (especially Christmas), and second because many holidays are based on culture or religion, it wouldn't fit nicely, seeing as how this game is played worldwide, and not just a single group. Introducing fake holidays into the game for events would be more enjoyable, and they could make it somehow fit with the calendar they had in the game. Maybe there could be a mini-festival on the first day of ever new season. On page 33 of The Guild Wars Manuscripts, the game introduces four seasons (Zephyr - Air, Phoenix - Flame, Scion - Water, Colossus - Earth) and states there are 360 days to a year. We could also have a New Year's Celebration every 360 days. As of now, I haven't really seen any reference to this Mouvelian Calendar.

I really love this idea too. A simple shiny shield made of gold/silver/bronze/copper/platinum, whatever suited the guild, with their logo embossed on it. And maybe some sort of shiny belt/belt bag to replace the one we all use currently with our guild logo on it. Really love the idea.

Tactical-Dillusions:
White Mantle Armor! LOL Iron Giant AWH mentioned this in our guild recently, saying how awesome it would be.. could you imagine, killing a White Mantle member and after beating him to a pulp, taking his armor and wearing it with pride HahAhaha. Mursaat Garments would also be fun to wear, and Shining Blade.

Armor
you walk into a pub. u hear rumors that theres a blacksmith that can customize white mantle armor, or any creep armor. he lives in a remote part of shiverpeaks...you need to bring him 5 sets of the armor, so he has materials to work with.

We need belts. buckles with a dragon on it. leather. dragon scale...

Yep, definitely sounds fun. I like the idea of it being a 'rumor you hear' while you're at a town or outpost, and not an actual given quest that appears in the quest log. It becomes a side-quest, there for those that want to attempt it, and totally optional.. and it'd be fun to customize pieces of their armor (instead of salvaging it) at some far-off difficult to reach crafter.

it would be fun if we started hearing rumors of expansion stuff now. like the 2 new areas. some rumors would be false, but it would keep players interested.

bar scum "rangers report that theres a secret crevice in the north shiverpeaks. theres a strange glow coming from it, and a hideous sound too. sounds like someone being tortured with dull razor blades..."

remote areas: give us a reason to go there. its fun with a group of 5-7

Yeah, floating rumors in town would give us a reason to go out and explore, and even if we found random items that hinted at storylines to come (like the Tattered Girl's Cape), those would be fun to find on the journeys.

Every update should bring many new quests and people should be encouraged to do them.I always woder why simple quests are not rewarded with money. It should make farming disspear.

Definitely - more quests (preferably side quests, so the game wouldn't feel as linear), and with better rewards: money, novelty items, etc.

repair armour will, yes, soak up some if not lots, of the floating cash...and you would be able to tell bots from the get-go, simply cause they are the ones fighting nekkid...

however, the last mmo i played in that had repairs, it also took some of the durability of the armour away..so the best sets of stuff (the white heroes armour, that looked like a star wars storm trooper lol) were only ever worn in town, and all hell would break loose if a guild memeber hit another guild memeber while they were wearing it...(inter guild players could hit and fight eachother in the towns...not a smart move, since the lag from a guild v guild there would make the towns sometimes un-playeable)

having to eat food....no, not good. forcing food eating will cause much heart-ache, try using modmans hunger/thirst mod in morrowind, then come back and tell my why eating will work....(though eating befor resting was ok, but we dont *realy* need to rest ether, so food would be better as a passtime or a simple cash maker)

and as to crafting..i can give a whole heaping list of em...i have done em all in my time, in various games (though not everquest, i would have to be off work for a whole month to install my month freeby trial of that, so i just dont even go there lol)

blacksmithing....sub crafts: mineing/smealting/weponcrafting/armour crafting
alchemy..sub crafts: potions/essances/dyes/oils and ungents
tailoring..sub crafts: leather working/cloth making/clothes making/accesorie making
cooking...sub crafts: baking/brewing and fermenting
jewelers..sub crafts: gem cutting/ polishing/mineing/jewelry crafting
mage crafts...sub crafts: enchanting/scribeing/wand making/item creations feats
woodworking...sub crafts: carpentry/bowyering/fletching
tinkering/engineering...sub crafts: toolmaking/glass working/clay working/parts making
farming/gathering...sub crafts...suply and demand/harvesting and gathering of items...fishing also

and this lot (bar the fishing) i have done in just one game.....(modded by the games own players..something called CNR Craftable Natural Resources)

and this was all done using nothing but scripts in the begining, using nothing more than in game models and a whole lot of sweat and scripting, an beleave me, scripting is a pain, and i have only learned how to make rocks give ore or gems...o.0

crafting could take the place, for some of us , at least, of the farming grind...its still a grind, but it would be a better grind for those of us that dont play in the kill-identify-sell rinse repeat style....
those who wold rather have a craft....

and, crafting could be usefull in guilds...having a guild crafter or three could mean that you send your newbies out to harvest and collect....then, after they have gotten enough materials, your guild weponsmith or armoursmith can make them something....
again, the stats would not have to be the best, just good enough for the various areas the players are going into. and not as great or good looking as the special stuff (flameing swords and ghost stuff from the UW ect)
